The clue as to where you’ll find this much-loved daytime restaurant lies in the name. Located at 19 Lever Street, 19 Café Bar claims to have built its reputation on serving up Manchester’s heartiest brunch and fluffiest pancake stacks. Given how many spots are vying for attention in terms of both those stomach-filling options, that’s some statement. But, considering the level of returning customers this place has, it seems unlikely they’re exaggerating. Set back from the roadside, with large windows offering a great people-watching opportunity and an outdoor area for warmer months, whatever time of year you visit it’s a great spot for a leisurely feed. And you’ll certainly want to take your time over this one.
Boasting the freshest ingredients, the team are particularly proud of their locally-sourced sausages, while coffee comes from nearby Heart and Graft. Breakfast options include Irish, Veggie, Vegan Bowl (think falafel, hummus, and cumin-roasted cauliflower), and American. The latter boasts a full-on mix of sweet and savoury, from streaky bacon and two fried eggs to French toast. You’ll also find pancakes on that plate, although this place takes them to a whole new level with a dedicated menu. Kinder is a particular favourite, with chocolate hazelnut, Kinder Bueno, roasted nuts and vanilla ice cream toppings. Meanwhile, Biscoff opts for the biscuit and salted caramel route. Those looking for a little less, meanwhile, might opt for a brioche bun, or on a healthier tip there’s always that bowl of fresh granola. All of which can be washed down with an amazing selection of hot and cold drinks (Iced Mocha and Chai are perennial favourites), wines, beers, ciders, cocktails (including a serious Bloody Mary) and Mocktails. That’s if it’s still too early for G&T.
