Bad news first. Allotment NQ is no more. The pub and gin spot has been replaced by Herd NQ, who were actually in the Allotment kitchens for a spell, and have now taken over the whole lot.

They re-opened their doors in August and now have a brand new menu, featuring their signature 30 Day Dry Aged Steaks, a selection of mains, nibbles and some pretty sexy sides. But let’s talk about those steaks first shall we?

A mix of organic Aberdeen Angus and Hereford crosses, the meat is dry-aged for 30 days to its optimal level of maturity, providing great succulence and flavour, and available in a variety of cuts, from ribeye to sirloin, rump to T-bone and even the legendary Chateaubriand sharer.

For alongside your steak there are some seriously indulgent sides, including Herd’s outrageously good Triple Cooked ChipsTruffle and Parmesan Mash and one of the city’s best (and cheesiest) Mac & Cheese.

Another favourite on the new menu is the triple-stacked Herd Burger, a massive creation with 2 x 6oz beef & bone marrow patties, slow pulled beef, fried onions, double Lancashire cheese & truffle aioli, finished on a brioche bun. Wowzers.

What’s more, weekends are kicking off here, with LIVE DJs every other Saturday (starting this Saturday 18th September), oh, and the Sunday Roasts here are mega, and they do 2 of ’em for £25! Hard to argue with that.

Now they’re in charge of the entire space, Herd have also recently introduced a new Happy Hour between 4pm – 9pm every Wednesday and Thursday. You can get 2 for £12 cocktails, house DOUBLE Gin & Tonics for £5.50, DOUBLE Spirit & Mixer for £6, lager for £3.50 and a bottle of wine for £15.

Herd NQ is open Wednesday to Sunday.
