Afflecks is unarguably Manchester’s most unique shopping destination, with pretty much everything you can think of sold by passionate independents under the one roof of this huge, labyrinthine building. Head up two flights of stairs and you’ll find Doll Parts, the city’s most liberated and forward-thinking beauty collective, specialising in creative nail art, professional pedicures and a number of other treatments, combining on-trend style with innovative artistry, while flying a flag for female-led creative businesses, feminist empowerment and the spirit of openness and independence.

Customers booking in with makeup practitioners, tooth gem technicians, acrylic or gel nails can expect exceptional results, but this place goes much further than that — Doll Parts brands itself as a feminist hub for self care. Founded by Millie Horton and Ellie Bebb, the business is built on a safe space ethos, pushing a philosophy that everyone should be allowed to be themselves, so the team work to help others discover, realise, and emphasise their identities, bringing their boldest, most vivid ideas to life. Whether that involves BIAM or GEL-X extensions to nails, or they prefer to turn them into fine art canvases displaying original masterpieces. Elsewhere, Bucktooth Gems is the most established and respected tooth gem expert in the city, and can offer Swarovski Crystal, 22-carat gold and white gold, or completely custom work to suit the wildest imaginations, with brow, lash and waxes also on the extensive menu. A full-service operation that you actually want to buy into.
