Head down to Matt & Phred’s this May Bank Holiday, to dance and party with their favourite New Orleans band The Nightcreatures! They play New Orleans R&B inspired by the hit HBO series ‘Treme‘ and the recordings of Dr John, James Booker and Professor Longhair. They draw repertoire from a varied mixture of New Orleans classics, old time blues, traditional spirituals, mardi gras and more modern songs given the ‘Nightcreatures treatment’, as well as original music. Half blues band, half brass band they have the capacity to perform in a street parade as well as on stage and deliver a driving rhythmic sound that demands their audience dance. Doors will open at 5pm with the band hitting the stage from 8pm.

PILL is the young collaboration between artists Veronica Torres, Andrew Spaulding, Jonathan Campolo and Benjamin Jaffe. PILL’s recordings combine fast, forward-thinking lyrics that express social unrest with a painterly contempt for rock formalism. The four-piece draw from a deep pool of influences including New York City noise, krautrock, Sun Ra modalities, telepathic dreams and all six senses. They are joined by some yet to be announced special guests for this free show at Soup Kitchen.

Atlanta-based synth wizard Byron The Aquarius comes to Manchester for the first time! After releasing some incredible music via Theo Parrish’s SOUND SIGNATURE label, as well as Kyle Hall’s Wild Oats Music, he started to venture out of the US for the first time last year with tours in Europe and Australia. The trained jazz pianist has already amassed an impressive musical history – working with artists such as Onra & Flying Lotus as a hip hop producer in the late 2000s, before being guided into world of house music by Kai Alce. You really really do not wanna miss this show where he is joined by JVC and more.
