Orphan Boy Ruby Lounge

The Ruby Lounge
Orphan Boy / Frazer King / The Antics / Velocets

Orphan Boy are pissed off. They make no apologies about this. Turns out their last album was called ‘Passion, Pain & Loyalty‘ for a reason. They are unhappy and disillusioned with the way that the world has seen them. Manchester émigrés, who are originally from Cleethorpes their names are Rob CrossPaul Smith (or “Smithy”) and Chris Day. They moved there because there was nothing to do and because they were bored. They made music that they declared ‘council pop’. Their live shows soon attracted a rabid following, who remain loyal to this day. Orphan Boy have locked themselves away for a year writing and demoing songs for their next offering due out in late 2013 – with some major plans afoot. Orphan Boy are back, this time they mean business. The music world will take notice. You should take notice. Your loss if you don’t.  Orphan Boy

Support tonight comes from Manchester favourites Frazer King, The Antics and Velocets and DJs will take the party into the early hours, not bad for 8 quid.

‘Saturdays’ at Soup Kitchen

Mucho Muso? March Soup Kitchen

Mucho Muso?

After their first outing in the Basement at Soup, tonight sees the return of Mucho Muso? which will be happening every second Saturday of the month bringing something different to the Northern Quarter. From the collective brain (and record boxes) of DJ’s Russ & CP the night will provide an assortment of Funk, Disco, Balearic & House nuggets. Russ and CP have amassed an extensive library of amazing music between them. Mucho Muso? is the outlet for this passion, bringing music to your ears that you won’t find being played any where else in Manchester.

Russ currently manages the vinyl department of Vinyl Exchange on Oldham Street but started out over 25 years ago working at Spin Inn Records. He moved on later to own Manchester Underground records and during this period became Hacienda resident on Fridays, warming up for Mike Pickering. He was also resident at Oz and Macey’s in Blackpool in the early 90?s. In 1994 he started an night called Out In The Sticks which ran weekly for 9 years and became something of an underground club legend.

CP has been DJing and collecting records for 23 years now and worked at 4th Wave records in Huddersfield for a few years whilst at music college. He has run numerous events including Instant Relief and more importantly the very popular What The Freak (where Mucho Muso? takes it’s music ethic from). He is resident at Into The Valleyalongside Ben Davis at the world famous Trades Club. CP currently runs Inkfolk with his partner Charlotte in Hebden Bridge, a bi-monthly pop up weekend event that encompasses live music, art, film and DJ sets over the whole weekend.
