Band On The Wall
Mr Scruff Keep It Unreal with DJ Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy
Time for Mr. Scruff’s monthly residency at Band on the Wall. As always, Scruff will be at the controls, serving up a melting pot of jazz, soul, hip hop, funk, disco, deep house, reggae, afrobeat, latin, and plenty of goodies that don’t fit into any category. Tonight he is joined by special guest DJ Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy to break up his usual 5 hour set. Expect fantastic sound, a lovely mixed crowd & great atmosphere. This is a “non-mobile disco” so Scruff asks that you don’t use cameras and phones on the dance floor. He asks this because we want the dancefloor to be a place where everyone can be in the moment. If you’re tweeting, texting, bidding for a pair of socks on eBay or taking a picture of your friends, you’re not only out of the moment, you also might be making it hard for someone else to be in the moment. The bar or balcony is a much better place for this.

Matt & Phreds
Kyla Brox
Kyla Brox is all woman, and now that she’s added mother to her various roles as temptress, good-time gal and dream soul singer, Kyla is the complete woman. To listen to her versions of ‘Feelin’ Good’ and ‘At Last’ is to understand how completely she has absorbed the related forms of soul and blues. Respectively associated with Nina Simone and Etta James, they remind that strong women are a vital part of Afro-American and Lancashire culture. Kyla balances extremes of tenderness and strength like no other singer of her generation, and belts out the blues like a Janis Joplin who has come through. And then there’s her transposition of Deep Southern Soul to northern climes. She sings in her native accent, because, for Kyla, there is no separation between life and art. For tonight’s performance at Matt & Phred’s Kyla will be joined by fellow musician and songwriting partner Danny Blomeley and a full band for what promises to be a very special gig.
