The Saturday Social is Back! And this is the first event of what’s going to be an eight month series of daytime parties in 2017. Saturday Social couldn’t think of a better way to kick off proceedings than inviting the impressive Paolo Francesco, who has gone from pirate radio DJ to promotor (for some of Londons best parties) to tour manager (for non other than Jamie Jones…) and back to DJ again, to join them. Support comes from the Boxed:Music residents (inc. Versus).

Boasting an enormous 10 piece line up including 3 amazing female lead singers and a rip roaring quartet of horns, The Soul Rays bring an energetic live show every time they take to the stage. The Soul Rays will be playing an original mix of straight up Funk with R’n’B harmonies chopped with Hip Hop grooves and attitude at Matt & Phred’s tonight. Expect plenty of original Soul Rays Funk music with along with classic, rare and even a few unexpected covers exploring some of the many amazing artists who have influenced them.

This Saturday David Dunne takes control of the decks at Funkademia, which takes place every Saturday to a consistently full house, feeding a friendly crowd with a diet of pure unadulterated soul-funk with the dj collective taking you on a journey through four decades of the very best soul, funk, electric disco and hip-hop with a touch of smooth r&b and some big house classics.

This Northern Quarter stalwart sells out most weeks so you’re advised to either arrive early or purchase advance tickets.

British electronic music producer and DJ comes to Manchester and brings Keep It Unreal to Band On The Wall. As a DJ, Andy Carthy aka Mr. Scruff plays across the board, flitting between soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, latin, African, ska, disco, house, funk, breaks, soundtracks and loads more. As a producer, he makes music that draws on these influences, with a large dose of cheek and good humor. His cartoon drawings illustrate gig flyers, record sleeves and CD covers, and usually, accompany him at gigs as live animated visuals.

Following on from last year’s reunion and series of live dates in the U.K and U.S, The Railway Children return for more in 2017. Formed in Wigan in 1984, by vocalist, guitarist Gary Newby, guitarist Brian Bateman, drummer Guy Keegan and bassist Stephen Hull, the band found UK Indie chart topping success early on with ‘A Gentle Sound‘, their debut album ‘Reunion Wilderness‘, and second single ‘Brighter‘ in 1987. Their melodic, guitar fuelled melodies, fusing elements of The Smiths, R.E.M and post-punk pop, soon found favour with several major labels in London. Tonight they are back at The Ruby Lounge.
