The Reboot Project brand has had many guises over the years but has always been at the forefront of celebrating funky soulful music since it began in 1999. After their huge Reboot Social events across the North West in 2015 & 2016 they are back with a bang in 2017 to showcase a mass of new material that will be released on their record label, Beatphreak Recordings. Taking control of this showcase at Night & Day tonight are San Eco, Simba Selecta, Nongi (aka Sno), Paul Thornton and Shaun ‘Funkyginger’ Foran.

Scruff of the Neck are described by Hattie Pearson of Radio X as “making waves we shouldn’t ignore” and a “Super-cool imprint” by Manchester Evening News. High praise indeed, but it’s the bands they pick and the shows they promote that make the difference and tonight is a busy night for them indeed with gigs all over the NQ. This one at Gullivers is headlined by Control of the Going and support comes from Carpets and Divine Youth.

Dana Ali Band

The Dana Ali Band is a Neo-Soul band formed by husband and wife Dave Hewitt and Dana Ali, the band takes elements of Blues, Jazz, Soul, R&B and Funk to create a fresh and distinctive sound. Taking her influences from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Eva Cassidy and Roberta Flack, to name but a few, Dana started singing Gospel music in the churches of Atlanta GA. With experience singing in front of large audiences in churches, conferences, choirs and plays, Dana decided to take her performing career to another level. Collaborating with Dave Hewitt and Alan Shacklock (from the British band Babe Ruth), Dana Ali started recording material in Nashville for her solo project. After moving to the UK, Dana now performs and tours with her band, which she will be doing at Matt & Phreds tonight.

This Saturday Les Croasdaile takes control of the decks at Funkademia, which takes place every Saturday to a consistently full house, feeding a friendly crowd with a diet of pure unadulterated soul-funk with the dj collective taking you on a journey through four decades of the very best soul, funk, electric disco and hip-hop with a touch of smooth r&b and some big house classics.

This Northern Quarter stalwart sells out most weeks so you’re advised to either arrive early or purchase advance tickets.

British electronic music producer and DJ, Mr Scruff, comes to Band on the Wall for Keep It Unreal. As a DJ, Andy Carthy aka Mr. Scruff plays across the board, flitting between soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, latin, African, ska, disco, house, funk, breaks, soundtracks and loads more. As a producer, he makes music that draws on these influences, with a large dose of cheek and good humour. His cartoon drawings illustrate gig flyers, record sleeves and CD covers, and usually, accompany him at gigs as live animated visuals.

Akaram aka Mark Hartwell has been a pusher of techno in Manchester for the best part of a decade. His unique blend of heavy machine driven techno, electro and acid is now a frequent feature at parties in the cities vast array of clubs and warehouse spaces. Currently a resident for Lost Control, High Hoops and Eastern Bloc Records he also regularly features on NTS and Reform Radio.

Established as a record shop for over 30 years Eastern Bloc is now a fully licensed bar open until 11pm with the occasional late license event. Some special local selectors as well as current and past staff members take the helm at the decks and provide your soundtrack.
