Back To The Future III

At Night & Day Café tonight is a charity gig in aid of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research featuring Sam Forrest (nine Black Alps) playing an accoustic set, Stations, Winter Project and The Alpha Machine. To accompany the charity gigs, SFT Records have teamed up with the cassette only label Post / Pop Records of London to release a very special limited edition mixtape featuring album tracks, live recordings and remixes by some of their favourite bands including Metz, The Joy Formidable, Everything Everything, Dutch Uncles, Pulled Apart By Horses, We Are Scientists, Nine Black Alps and many, many more! This tape is limited to 200 copies, will cost £10 and will only be available at the Back To The Future charity gigs of which this is one.

After a show stopping NYE performance and a follow up in April New York Brass Band are back to grace the stage at Matt &Phred’sonce again! The band are North Yorkshire’s only contemporary New Orleans inspired Brass Band. Hailing from the mean streets of York the band are part of a funky brass revolution that is sweeping the nation. Inspired by Rebirth, Soul Rebels, Youngblood and Brassroots, NYBB pack a powerful punch of relentless drums, rumbling tuba and wailing horns…nothing kicks a party into gear like the sound of a smokin’ New Orleans Mardi Gras Jazz Band. If you are looking for a night to remember, this is the gig for you!

This Saturday Les Croasdaile takes control of the decks at Funkademia, which takes place every Saturday to a consistently full house, feeding a friendly crowd with a diet of pure unadulterated soul-funk with the dj collective taking you on a journey through four decades of the very best soul, funk, electric disco and hip-hop with a touch of smooth r&b and some big house classics.

The Funk & Soul Show goes live once more at Band On The Wall with presenter, DJ, acclaimed actor and funkster about town Craig Charles manning the decks ‘til late. This one is a Bank Holiday weekend celebration of flavoursome funk and soul. Time to find your dancing shoes, get with the mothership connection and join in the party! This month Craig presents a live showcase from Myles Sanko “One of the freshest talents in the UK, he truly has an outstanding voice” according to Craighimself. Myles released his debut EP record album, titled, ‘Born in Black & White‘ to broad critical and fan acclaim in 2013. The album consists of seven original funk and soul tracks written and performed by Myles, himself. The record is composed and played in the style of soul greats such as Bill Withers, Otis Redding, Al Green and James Brown, all of whom Myles names openly and proudly as his main musical influences.

Things are changing down at Twenty Twenty Two (which was 2022NQ – See even the name has changed), and one such thing is Saturday nights at the venue as they introduce us to Beats, Bats and Beers. Every Saturday they have DJ Bucky on the decks for a night of Hip Soul, Boogie Funk, Disco & Alternative Pop treasures and their new, dedicated Ping Pong room is open to play a bit of wiff waff all night long. Doors open at 4pm with DJs on from 9pm and it’s FREE ENTRY. This week joining Bucky will be Danny Ward aka Moodymanc as he makes a happy return to Beats Bats n Beers after the wild success of the last party after which vicious rumours started to circulate that even Ste Johnson was seen to almost look like he was enjoying himself!
