What's On in the Northern Quarter, Saturday 16th August

Soup Kitchen
Swing Ting with Poirier / Can You Felix

Swing Ting conclude their summertime sessions at Soup Kitchen by inviting two excellent selectors to shell down their August dance, one from across the Altantic – Poirier, and one recent returnee from South America – Can You Felix. Poirier has his heart in the music, uncompromising and dedicated with over a decade in the game, he’s released various bashy, soca-ry, tropical goodness on Mixpak & Ninja Tune, as well as remixing the likes of The Clipse & Bonde do Rolê to name a few. Be prepared to bounce, rock and wuk up a sweat when he selects. Can You Felix of Overproof family is no stranger to a Swing Ting session. He recently returned from a jaunt in South America, incorporating latin styles into his carnival-fuelled sets loaded with dancehall, soca and afropop sizzlers. His latest mixtape was “real niiice” so it felt like the right time to request Felix to spice up their final summer session! On hand as usual will be Samrai, Platt and The Original Mr Fox.

Point Of Departure, Three Minute Theatre

The Three Minute Theatre
Point Of Departure

“It’s the night before Christmas. The tiny Republic of Khoto has erupted into violence and mayhem; the ousted President is on the run, the army is on the streets and everyone is heading for the airport. But the last plane has gone. Only three British soldiers remain in the deserted buildings. Sent to evacuate civilians they wait for their transport. The unwanted arrival of Rourke heralds a deeper, more desperate crisis. You can’t change the past. You can run. You can hide. But you can’t escape judgement or retribution.” Want to find out more then you are going to have to head to Three Minute Theatre for Point of Departure by John Topliff.
