After a short hiatus while they sunned themselves during Manchester’s two week summer, Playground are ready to get back to business. To kick things off before they dive into their full season of events which will be announced soon they are teaming up with their pals over at Deep Water Recordings for what’s set to be a belter of a party. They’ve chosen the intimate surroundings of The Whiskey Jar Basement as the venue and as they’re “such swell guys” there will be no set entry fee but if you want to make a contribution it will be gladly received.

Gymnast ‘Wild Fleet’ album launch

Hey! Manchester presents Gymnast who play a special home-town launch show to celebrate the release of their debut album ‘Wild Fleet‘ which comes out on the 26th September. Gymnast are Manchester-based duo Cathy Wilcock (lead vocals, guitar, electronics) and Chris Lyon (synth, cello, vocals, programming). Their music sits somewhere between alt-pop, trip-hop, and electronica and they launch their debut album ‘Wild Fleet’ with this special launch show at Manchester’s iconic Castle Hotel. Support comes from Hannah Ashcroft (Trip of Hares).

After a triumphant debut at Matt & Phred’s, Ukebox return to party once again! This ensemble of 5 draws on the flawless tonal qualities of the Ukulele and its sheer power to bring a smile to anyone. With fresh arrangements of classic artists from The Beach Boys to Beyonce there’s something for everyone. Along with some questionable oddities thrown in for good measure, the mixture of strong harmonies and strapping bass lines prove an aural and visual pleasure not to be missed! A range of brilliant songs, cleverly mixed, arranged and performed by 5 of the hottest ukulele players known to the North West and possibly beyond. A must see!!
