The Preatures, Night & Day

Night & Day
The Preatures & special guests

The Preatures had the UK obsessing over their track ‘Is This How You Feel‘ only a few short months ago and following two packed London shows and series of gigs in New York that made them one of the most talked about bands at CMJ they are returning to the UK for a full national tour which tonight brings them to Night & Day. The five piece, hailing from Sydney’s Surry Hills area have been a fixture on the countries live circuit for the past year, regularly selling out venues across the country and topping most played lists at local radio. Led by Isabella Manfredi and Gideon Benson on vocals, Jack Moffitt on lead guitar, Thomas Champion on bass and Luke Davison on drums, the band have already released two EPs in Australia.

After just four EPs they’ve already played live with Temples, Shaun Ryder and Drenge. The Castaways, Matt & Phreds

Matt & Phreds
The Castaways

The Castaways formed in early 2012, inspired by Mel Howard’s love of Studio One Ska and Don Drummond’s unique style of trombone playing. He wanted to recreate the free-form, chilled-out sounds of early ska and that is exactly what they will be bringing to the hallowed Matt & Phred’s stage tonight.

Chris Mills, The Castle Hotel

The Castle Hotel
Chris Mills

The LRM are proud to welcome one of their favourite musicians back to Manchester. ‘Alexandria‘, the first new album from songwriter Chris Mills in five years, released on Jan 21st. Comprising nine original songs featuring newly-christened backing band, the Distant Stars – producer Christer Knutsen, bassist Ryan Hembrey and drummer Konrad Meissner – the album began to take shape after an unexpected encounter in the Norwegian wilderness in 2009. Recorded in Chicago, New York and Oslo, Alexandria often reflects the cold, dark landscape of its inception, while consistently showcasing the narrative romanticism that has long been Chris Mills’ calling card. Alexandria is his most honest and haunting effort to date. Truly stunning. Support comes from the always excellent Quiet Loner aka Matt Hill, an understated yet powerful performer delivering a show that is emotional, political, occasionally angry but nearly always gentle and human. Advance tickets have sold out but a very limited number will be available on the door for £10.

Kraak
Doodle x Thick as Thieves x ETC present Casino Times

Doodle x Thick As Thieves x Etc Manchester present the first of their parties with Part One with Casino Times and residents at Kraak tonight. Just like in Captain Planet, 3 of Manchester’s house nights have joined forces to bring you 3 parties in 3 different venues. They’ll bring the Earth, Wind and Fire (nice reference!), you bring the Water and the Heart (whatever that means!!). You will probably have first have heard of Casino Times (Wolf Music / Needwant / Futureboogie) when their infectious future classic ‘That’s The Truth’. The track was supported and played by many highly regarded tastemakers including Jamie XX, Wolf & Lamb, Bicep and Solomun (who included it in his ‘Watergate Mix’ CD). The versatility of this track set the bench mark for Joseph Spencer and Nick Church, to constantly push their own personal boundaries when making music, agreeing not to focus on a certain sound but to carve a path with a sound that they can define as their own.

Truss, Soup Kitchen

Soup Kitchen
Adapt & Eastern Bloc present Truss / AnD / Szare (live) / Adapt Djs

Adapt and Eastern Bloc Records present Truss, AnD, Szare and Adapt DJsLondon based producer, Tom Russell aka Truss has been releasing music since 2007, and writing and composing for over 10 years. With an uncompromising output of British influenced techno, his music takes inspiration from artists such as Subhead, Cristian Vogel, Neil Landstrumm, Regis and Surgeon. Truss sits comfortably among his contemporaries as part of a new school of producers emerging from the murky depths of the UK underground. Enigmatic Mancunian duo AnD famously rose to prominence in 2011 after a slew of ground breaking releases characterised by their refurbished, stripped back and Dave Clarke inspired brand of techno. True vinyl purists, the two maintain strong analogue production ethics and showcase this in their heavy hitting live show. Szare is an investigation into the abstract depths of uk soundsystem culture via the template of modern techno.Tightly coiled rhythms propel incursions of jagged noise deep into the wilderness. Adapt and their DJs have been throwing excellent underground techno parties in Manchester for the last few years. They have brought a whole plethora of names to the UK for their monthly basement parties, always pushing the cutting edge of techno and electronica. Ones to watch for the future!
