Puppet Rebellion, Jimmys

Puppet Rebellion

Scruff of the Neck are described as a collective “making waves we shouldn’t ignore” (Hattie Pearson, Radio X) and a ‘Super-cool imprint” (Manchester Evening News). High praise indeed, but it’s the bands they pick and the shows they promote that make the difference. This time, in the Jimmy’s basement they present to you Puppet Rebellion, Livvo and Blitzkrieg City.

Ten Fé (Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan) are from London. Their sound is a hybrid of rock, indie and electro, like a cross between The War On Drugs, Primal Scream and Bruce Springsteen. Having already gained support from the likes of Mosca, Dave Clarke, Nina Kraviz and the rest, he has re-established himself as an exciting and original thinking producer. Building on the success of the project’s first releases, he has returned as a DJ, 3 years after giving it up to pursue a brief career as a local broadcaster and voiceover artist. Support comes from residents Oriel and Voiceless.

distractions, gullivers

The Distractions

In the late 70s and early 80s The Distractions were very well known on the post-punk Manchester music scene. They released records on the TJM, Factory, Island and Rough Trade labels to excellent reviews, as well as sharing bills with Joy Division, The Buzzcocks, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Fall, The Members, Squeeze and many others. They played all corners of the UK and Ireland as well as doing gigs in New York before splitting up. In 2015 two of the original members, vocalist Mike Finney and drummer Alex got together with some friends after being asked to play at  a memorial gig for  Manchester punk legend John the Postman. It went down so well they decided to continue as a live act playing their singles as well as songs from the album ‘Nobody’s Perfect‘. The new line-up continues the Distractions tradition of storming live sets which you can witness tonight at Gullivers.
