Nearly a year to day that Thris Tian first joined Global Roots Soundsystem in the Soup Kitchen basement alongside Awesome Tapes From Africa, GRS are back for the 4th edition of their quarterly residency with the Boiler Room co-founder. Joining Thris are GRS regulars Cervo, SNO & JVC who will fill the basement with sounds old & new from around the world; flamboyant afrobeat from Accra, life-affirming Turkish disco, guttural Detroit techno, deep afrohouse sounds of Durban, percussive madness from Lisboa, Norwegian jazz-house, lush UK neo-soul and everything in between.

Trick Mist and Video Blue are the solo projects of UK-based Gavin Murray and Jim O’Donoghue Martin, respectively. The two have spent over a decade making music together. Their split 7″ single release offers the two a shared platform to showcase their differing individual practices. The sole connection between these tracks is the artist’s shared history as music makers. Neither has heard the others single. Crumbs Abound and Disco Nap are truly independent offerings. Should make for an interesting night in The Castle Hotel!

Since then his star has risen phenomenally, working with Damian Marley and guesting on tracks for Major Lazer and Protoje among many others. This promises to be a huge night in the reggae calendar, get your tickets quick.

Alligator Gumbo are an exciting 7 piece, Leeds based swing band featuring the authentic line up of clarinet, violin, trumpet, trombone, accordion, steel guitar, double bass, and washboard. They play New Orleans Swing / Jazz from the 1920’s era with songs made popular by the likes of Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton and Ella Fitzgerald, performed in the traditional style of upbeat tempos, entertaining improvisations, foot-stomping swinging rhythms, and rowdy group singing. Sounds like a great night ahead at Matt & Phred’s.
