Portmanteau are a hard hitting, horn heavy, funk/soul/hiphop 9 piece band from Leeds. Made up of some of the finest musicians in the UK the band has made a big impact on the scene with their debut self titled EP. Big original funk with “bright brash brass stabs rippling outward from Tower of Power, while Earth, Wind and Fire tremble appropriately” (The Equal Ground). Be prepared to move your feet to some original funk and hip hop music alongside unexpected takes on tunes you know when they make the trip along the M62 to Matt & Phreds this evening.

Now Wave presents Bill Ryder-Jones at Gullivers tonight. Singer-songwriter, producer & ex member of The Coral, Bill releases his third solo album this November. The follow-up to A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart was written and recorded by Ryder-Jones in his childhood bedroom at his mother’s house in West Kirby before being filtered through Liverpool’s legendary Parr Street Studios. A classic band record, West Kirby County Primary features Bill playing a multitude of instruments including the electric guitar with his trademark prowess. This will be a fantastic chance to hear material old and new in an beautifully intimate setting.
