Alice Zadawski

Matt & Phreds
Manchester Jazz Festival ~ Alice Zawadzki: Songs From Around The World

Alice Zawadski and her band take us on a journey across continents, bringing us jazz inspired by music from Africa, Greece, Poland and Scandinavia, as well as original material inspired by John Coltrane, Joni Mitchell and Savina Yannatou, brought innovatively to life by Manchester’s finest musicians.

Alice performs all of the chosen songs in their original languages all of which are uplifting and exciting. They include a gorgeous joyful song from Ghana with hand clapping and tons of percussion, a Polish drinking song, a beautiful Greek song about the moon (which Rosie and Alice play strings on) a dark Sephardic song with driving heavy beats that Dave and Stuart work their magic on, and some of Alice’s own songs too.

There is a lot of energy to the set, and a lot of musical and visual variety with Rosie and Alice both playing violin/cello, percussion and singing to compliment the stellar line-up of drums, guitar and keys from the other members of the band.

8pm – 1am / £5

RareKind

Owned and run by Artist & Creative Project Manager, David Samuel, RareKind started life 11 years ago as the UK’s first Graffiti Art Gallery. Following the gallery’s success and notoriety, David went on to launch the RareKind London Illustration Agency in 2008, representing a unique line up of artists and illustrators from a huge range of disciplines.

Offering an unrivalled service, RareKind pride themselves on the excellence of their project management, the quality of their artists’ work and the glowing feedback they receive from a huge range of clients, including media, TV & film companies, advertisers, music producers and publishers to stockbrokers, property developers, fashion labels, festivals and many more.

With the success of the agency in London, it was clear that the RK outfit was ready to branch out and set up another division of RareKind for the north of England. RK/M was born, taking with it the best artists on offer outside of London—as well as venturing into other realms of creativity such as design, photography and animation. This also coincided with a re-launch of the brand and website and now RareKind is an Illustration Agency based in London & Manchester.
