Stitches & Hos
Stitches & Hos began life in 2005 when Sara Fowles, Pip McKnight, Juliet Rayment and Bobbie Dubber were sipping in their local pub and decided to answer the question ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if people were knitting in here?’ Since then Stiches and Hos have been found creating soft chaos and dropping stiches at all kinds of events. Especially for The Un-establishment Stiches and Hos will be hosting workshops on Friday and Saturday to welcome you to the world of knitting. They will be yarn bombing on Friday 12th followed by their knitting surgery on Saturday 13th. They will be available to help and answer all your knitting queries. Grandma Lo-Fi: The Basement Tapes of Sigríður Níelsdóttir Screening
It’s never too late to start doing what you want to do!
At the tender age of 70 she started recording and releasing her own music straight from the living room. 7 years later she had 59 albums to her name with more than 600 songs – an eccentric myriad of catchy compositions mixing in her pets, found toys, kitchen percussion and casio keyboards. Sigrídur Níelsdóttir is her name, and before long the Icelandic/Danish musician and visual artist became an adored cult figure in the Icelandic music scene, represented here by her young apprentices Mugison, múm, and Sin Fang of Seabear who pay tribute to the grandma’s irresistibly catchy, yet eccentric pop tunes. Shot mostly on Super-8 and 16mm ‘Grandma Lo-fi’ was created over a period of seven years by three musicians and debuting directors, capturing the most productive period in the life of Sigríður Níelsdóttir. In many ways Sigrídur is like a cartoon character. Poetic moves such as taking in broken-winged pigeons that in return sing along to her tunes, or transforming a cream whisk into a helicopter, all call for animated sequences that bridge the obscure space between her exemplary imagination and a delightfully peculiar everyday existence. Grandma Lo-fi is a cinematic tribute to an amazing musician and to her boundless creativity, created by the young musicians and artists that she inspired. http://www.grandmalofi.is/

Shut Up And Play The Hits
On April 2nd 2011, LCD Soundsystem played its final show at Madison Square Garden. LCD frontman James Murphy had made the conscious decision to disband one of the most celebrated and influential bands of its generation at the peak of its popularity, ensuring that the band would go out on top with the biggest and most ambitious concert of its career. The instantly sold out, near four-hour extravaganza did just that, moving the thousands in attendance to tears of joy and grief, with New York magazine calling the event “a marvel of pure craft” and TIME magazine lamenting “we may never dance again.” Documenting this once in a life time performance and an intimate portrait of James Murphy as he navigates the lead-up to the show, the day after, and the personal and professional ramifications of his decision. www.shutupandplaythehits.c

Production workshop with Illum Sphere
Described as “one of the most special and unique artists to come out of the UK” by Hyperdub first lady Ikonika, Manchester’s Illum Sphere has had a busy time since his debut ‘The Incoming EP‘ landed in 2009 on hometown label, Fat City. Winning the BBC 1xtra Urban Music Award, invitations to play at LA institution Low End Theory (the second English person to do so after Mary Anne Hobbs) and last year’s Red Bull Music Academy in London, through to remix requests from Martyn, Kuedo, Zed Bias and Warp Records, he has already become one the UK’s most hotly tipped producers, whilst remaining outside the London hype machine. Add to that the gleaming praise given by all those that play his groundbreaking Hoya:Hoya night in Manchester, an EP on Martyn’s 3024 imprint, support from Radiohead front man Thom Yorke, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B and Brainfeeder’s Gaslamp Killer, Lorn, Ras G and Daedelus, 2010 seemed to be the year that Illum Sphere cemented his place. among the world’s underground music elite. http://soundcloud.com/
