9 years ago the doors the dark early days of what we now know as the Northern Quarter were made that much brighter as the doors were opened on “a dandyish den of indulgence“, Trof. Now fresh from a spruce up and a lick of paint they head into their 10th year continuing to do what they do best…delicious food, classic cocktails, rare bourbon and an abundance of beer.
Trof has earned it’s place as one of the Northern Quarter’s old faithful through hard work, friendly service and exceeding expectations day in and day out. Want a great breakfast. Done. Fantastic cocktails. Done. Still one of the best roasts in the NQ. Done. And it all happens in relaxed and comfortable surroundings that encourage you to stay for “just one more drink“.
Whilst they have introduced a new menu what hasn’t changed is the fact that all the food served at Trof is made and cooked by their chefs from fresh ingredients in their kitchen using free range meat or Freedom Farmed and locally sourced produce (like Frosty’s sausages, Trof Bakery’s bread and eggs from a free-range farm in Cheshire) wherever possible.
The menu has had a few tweaks but the hungry and hungover will be pleased to hear that breakfast, including the momentous Royal Brekkie, continues to be served until 4pm with the rest of the menu coming on stream from Noon. There are plenty of vegetarian options across the menu too and of course those roast dinners I already mentioned remain a big draw on a Sunday. If you want to check the Trof menu out give the link a click. If that’s not enough to convince you to head down for some grub then maybe the fact that Trof were awarded OFM awards 2013 Best Cheap Eats: runners up will convince you that it’s worth a trip. Ok, I know it’s 2016 now but still.
Ah, but what about the drinks? Well there’s craft beer from Manchester and beyond, a fine selection of spirits, wines and fizz and a choice of cocktails, both Trof Originals and classic. Upstairs, in what is sensibly called the Bourbon Bar, there’s also one of the best selections of Bourbon in the uk with over 40 on offer. Of course a bar isn’t a bar these days without a Happy Hour (hour?) and Trof’s runs every day from 4-8pm where you’ll pay £3 for a pint of Trof lager, cocktails at two for a tenner, £10 for a bottle of house wine and £15 for a bottle of Prosecco.
Rounding off Trof’s offering are the regular, and not so regular events. Oh, and the private hire. Every first and third Wednesday there’s an Open Mic night, while the other Wednesday’s are taken up by Making Waves, a live showcase for up and coming performers. Quizzers rejoice because the Trof Quiz is on every Tuesday with prizes including cash, drinks & tickets to gigs at Albert Hall and Gorilla up for grabs. Finally, every Saturday it’s the Juicy DJ’s Bar Session, easing you into those Sunday hangovers. And as for the Private Hire, the Bourbon Bar & the Montana Lounge are both up for grabs for your event, whether large or a little more intimate, and with Euro 2016 coming up they are the perfect spot to have your own private viewing party.
