Whiskey Jar

There are two loves at The Whiskey Jar; the obvious, whiskey (and whisky) and the slightly more subtly referenced, music. But music plays a big part in the success of this Tariff Street bar and I suppose it is to be expected from a bar named after the Irish folk song ‘Whiskey In The Jar‘, and there is a whole mix of entertainment to enjoy every week.

The Whiskey Jar bar

The Whiskey Jar really announced itself to the Northern Quarter with the introduction of its Tuesday night Jameson Open Mic which nears its second birthday and week in week out proves not only to be the most popular place on a Tuesday, but one of the greatest Open Mic nights in the city. They have built on this reputation and Thursdays now follow the live music vibe, with bands and djs playing a whole cross section of funk, Motown and soul, Fridays have resident DJs playing the classics from 50s, 60s, Motown and rock, and Saturdays have More Bounce Djs visit the Jar for a more new age 90s soul, funk & RnB sound until 2am. All of this for free!

The basement boilermaker bar underneath, aptly named The Still, now boasts one of the best sound systems in the city and plays host to different events every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Some of the best bands have been seen on Thursdays, some of the best House and Techno DJs on Fridays and some of the best all round soul and boogie DJs on Saturdays. Don’t miss out on future bookings by checking out their events listings on their website (launching August 2015). You’ll also be able to find out details of their soon to launch monthly comedy night too, Single Malt Comedy.

The Still, The Whiskey JarSo back to their first love, drinks are also, unsurprisingly, high on The Whiskey Jar’s agenda. Boasting a collection of over 280 whiskies from all over the world you’d think that was all they were about, but you’d be very wrong! A cocktail list with something for everyone, not to mention a whole host of drinks that will make the most vehement whiskey hater think again about changing their tune! Wines and beers a-plenty too, however the Laddie Marmalade cocktail is a must try, or one of their signature Old Fashioned’s.

Whiskey at The Whiskey Jar

With all that drink about you are going to need something to soak it all up and fortunately The Whiskey Jar also provides food everyday until late; their new food menu (Whiskey Jar Menu) combining the pies and scotch eggs they have become famous for with a wide selection of deli boards and sharing boards.
