Independent Manchester Beer Convention 2013

Last year our Northern Quarter pals at Common and Port Street Beer House set out to put on a Beer Festival with a difference. They had some core principles guiding them on this path, namely;

  • to feature the countries most progressive, forward thinking brewing types
  • have the brewers there serving beers and answering your questions
  • host it in a fantastic venue
  • serve up great food
  • deliver a quality dispense
  • feature a mixture of cask and keg
  • have food pairing
  • hold talks and seminars
  • have pop up tastings

IMBC 2012 delivered on all of these promises and more delighting the crowds of people who visited. The only question left for the organisers to answer when the doors closed was “When’s the next one?”.

a joyous event held in the crumbling splendour of the Victoria Baths” – Fiona Beckett of the Guardian

After years living in the shadow of draught-flow Boddingtons, the north west of England’s beer scene is shaking off the shackles of mediocrity…like a Port Eliot festival for the liver” – Caught By The River

Well now we know! Building on the success of IMBC 2012, and using the same guiding principles, the Independent Manchester Beer Convention 2013 (or Indy Man Beer Con 2013….or even IMBC 2013!) will be bigger, longer in duration, and no doubt even better than last year, and I’m pretty certain the organisers will be asking their latest permanent venture The Beagle to get involved. Taking place once again at Victoria Baths this year the IMBC will start on Thursday 10th October and run right through until Sunday 13th.

The organisers aren’t taking the easy route and just sitting back and replicating what happened last year, they will be making some changes which they think will make IMBC 2013 even better;

  • FIVE sessions – running from Thursday to Sunday with two sessions on Saturday
  • inviting some brewers from further afield to join in the fun
  • using the space a little differently to make the most of it
  • there’ll be more music, entertainment and performance
  • there’ll be even more brewers attending from the UK
  • Each day will have something different to offer with local, national and international brewers mingling
  • a limited number of weekend tickets will be available for the truly committed

Tickets are now on sale via there brand spanking new website for each of the sessions (and the weekend ticket) priced from as little as £6.
