Coming from the same stable as Odd, Odder & Oddest it’s hardly surprising that The Blue Pig isn’t the most straightforward of boozers but does indeed live up to its subtitle of ‘a curious drinking den‘!
Head up the High Street from the Arndale end of the Northern Quarter and you’ll find The Blue Pig inviting you in through its massive windows. Inside you will find a nod to the European drinking dens of the early 1900’s as The Blue Pig bar oozes vintage bohemian glamour with striking antique art deco features. The beautiful interior features original artwork and styling by Manchester based artist Kirsty Almeida.
The Blue Pig bar offers a fine spirit selection with a bar crammed full of tipples from around the globe; from single malt whiskies to fancy tequilas, small batch gins to family-owned liqueurs, fine aged rums and flavour-filled vodkas, sippers, snifters, aperitifs, digestifs and all manner of curios to drink in between. Carefully crafted cocktails, continental draft and bottled beers are also on offer plus an excellent ever changing selection of locally sourced real ales. Their superb selection of fine wines has also received the same careful attention, drawing inspiration from both the old world and the new. On a quest to discover new delights, The Blue Pig hosts regular events with experts including the Drinks Enthusiast, to explore, educate and uncover new drinking experiences. More information about upcoming events can be found on The Blue Pig Facebook and Twitter pages.
The Blue Pig food menu (which you should be able to read if you give it a click!) features hearty dishes with local and continental influences, ranging from the Japanese influenced Kobe Beef Burger with Wasabi Mayo to triple smoked fish cakes. Dishes are inspired by the contemporary and traditional from both the East and the West. Their now famous delicatessen is filled with breads, pastries, chutneys, jams, pâtés, dips and oils that are baked, pickled, preserved, blitzed, marinated & prepared in-house by the chefs. Baked croissants and tasty churro doughnuts dipped in hot creamy chocolate are served every day until 4pm. On Sundays they put on amazing roast dinners, which use the best cuts of meat and finest ingredients served up in a deep dish so none of the gravy escapes, all enjoyed whilst relaxing to acoustic live music.
When it comes to weekends The Blue Pig is filled with music from Manchester’s finest DJs and special live guests all of which is designed to provide evenings of entertainment for a discerning Northern Quarter crowd late into the night. There are regular live music events on alternating Fridays and Sundays, including a host of exciting unsigned acts, plus DJ residencies from the fantastic So Flute and Generic Greeting Collective.
