Established in 2015, when this corner of the Northern Quarter was first establishing itself as a rabbit warren of food and drink-focused delights, Tariff & Dale takes its name from the intersection of two iconic Manchester streets on which it sits and places an emphasis on classic cocktails – claiming to serve the best Espresso Martini in town — and great British beers. Hungry? No need to wait — this spot also makes a fine trade serving up contemporary food based on traditional English recipes, and is known as one of the leading sourdough pizza kitchens the North West has to offer. All housed in a building that epitomises the area’s heritage, having spent its former life as a warehouse for cotton spinners Ralph Waller & Co, with the address itself previously home to a metalworks before the original four walls were torn down.

This history is more than visible the moment you arrive, with the long, open plan bar area pockmarked by proud floor to ceiling iron pillars, and raw brickwork adding even more character to the scene. Not least in the back pool room, with free-to-use table, and quieter, more sophisticated downstairs restaurant. Which brings us to the menus. From bakes like the famous Honey Pork Sausage Roll and Mushroom Wellington, to light bites such as Pork Tacos with sir fried cinnamon, apple and fresh tomato, Fried Squid and Cauli(flower) Wings, to a fantastic range of large plates including Slow Cooked Beef Ragu, Sardinian Fragula, and Polish Kielbasa Sausage & Mash. Recurring events including all-you-can-eat pizza for two hours on Friday lunchtime, DJs spinning tunes every Friday and Saturday, and, of course, the traditional Sunday roast.
