Small Business Saturday 2014 is a national campaign to celebrate small businesses and the value they add to the character of your community. We all know the value so I suppose it’s nice that we celebrate this but must not let this be about a one-off shopping day. Supporting local business is something to do every day.
That said, if you’re shopping for gifts, local promotions, handy hints on how to create a special Christmas, or places to socialise, you’ll know that the Northern Quarter is the place to head. As well as all the fantastic independent businesses around the NQ there will also be another outing for the NQ Market, something that would be great to see more of in 2015 in one form or another.
Taking place on Small Business Saturday, 6th December 2014, the market will offer a range of arts, crafts and delicious food. A Taste of the Season will be serving two award-winning dishes, Zymurgorium, a fledgling brewing emporium, will be selling flavoured beers, oils and vinegars made from foraged ingredients, Young Enterprise will be supporting three local schools, which will be developing and testing their business ideas and Manchester Craft Centre will offer a range of handcrafted items made by their resident artists (if you want to see more pop up the road to the Centre itself where they will be offering free gift wrapping on purchases over £10 and the She Singers will be setting the festive cheer alight).
What’s more, to celebrate Small Business Saturday you can win one of 10 of my awesome NQCARDS which save you cash all year round at businesses in the Northern Quarter.
To claim your Northern Quarter card all you need to do is:
- Make a purchase of £20 or over on Saturday 6 December with any Northern Quarter business, including any of the market stalls on the Northern Quarter Market.
- Take a photograph of your purchase
- Tweet it using #SmallBizSatMCR hashtag
- Claim your discount card from the lady in the purple coat at the Northern Quarter Market on Oak Street and Thomas Street (ask for Stephanie). You’ll need to show proof of purchase and your tweet with the #smallbizsatmcr hashtag.
There are a limited number of cards, so you best be quick. There will be a notification sent out via the @ManCityCouncil Twitter account when they’re all gone. But then you can just buy your own anyway!
You can keep an eye out from more special offers, events etc by heading on to Twitter and keeping an eye on the official #smallbizsatmcr hashtag.
