For over 12 years now, since their doors were opened in 2001, Simple Bar & Kitchen has nestled in the Smithfield Building, right in the heart of the Northern Quarter on Tib Street, serving up its own special blend of food and drink.
Having changed ownership early this year (they are now owned by The House of Adventure Group) Simple is now looking to ensure that it remains one of the go-to bar/restaurants for people in the know in the NQ with a fresh new look and a new, evolving menu to boot. While it is situated on one of the busier streets in the Northern Quarter it is slightly off the well-trodden crawl of Thomas Street, tucked away behind a raised pavement, which doubles as an outdoor seating area, and so has a more relaxed atmosphere to some of the neighbouring spots.
This relaxed atmosphere is ideal for eating, drinking and meeting friends and Simple manages to mix the bar/restaurant elements perfectly, offering excellent drinks and delicious “home made” food, either together or separately however the mood takes you, all served by people who actually look like they care! With various meal deals on offer, including the £5 burger, get your timing right and you can bag yourself a bargain.
The decor is as you would expect…simple and the venue is decked out with leather booths for larger groups and smaller tables for intimate drinks and dining. Even the outdoor seating has been given a new lease of life and now look like they are somewhere to enjoy a meal (perhaps when the weather is better?) rather than just a place for the smokers to sit when they come outside.
Simple secured their tag as one of the Northern Quarter’s most highly acclaimed bars by winning the Manchester Tourism Awards “Best Bar of 2012” and it’s a title they are working hard to ensure they live up to. Not only are they delivering fine beverages but their ever popular cocktail masterclasses mean they will give you some of their secrets to take away with you. If you’d rather just drink the stuff then look out for their cocktail of the week, their Happy ‘Hour’ (4pm-8pm, Monday to Friday) where Simple becomes even more affordable as you can grab a house cocktail for £4.50 and a bottle of house wine for £8.95 and their ‘Hard Shakes’.
If you enjoy good food & good cocktails in a fun, relaxing atmosphere then Simple is well worth (another) look.
