With the stuttering demise of HMV it’s ever more important a time to embrace the future and support your local independent, no matter how big or how small. As they did last year, Soup Kitchen have put together a day of entertainment that is sure to catch music enthusiasts’ attention and offer a perfect base to meet up with fellow RSDers and show off/discuss/compare your purchases from local Northern Quarter stores Piccadilly Records, Beatin’ Rhythm or Soup Kitchen neighbour Eastern Bloc.

Shackleton Soup Kitchen

Shackleton / Conor Thomas & guests

Next up Soup Kitchen have invited one of their favourite artists, Shackleton, to be the meat in their Record Store Day sandwich as he plays alongside Conor Thomas and guests down in the Basement from 8pm-10.30pm. Shackleton’s maverick take on big basslines and complex beats doesn’t fit into easy categories and that’s how it’s going to stay. Shackleton has been carving out his own brand of eclecticism on Skull Disco releases so far with intricate, snaking percussion, hypnotic melodies, seriously deep bass lines and dubwise sensibilities.
