Psychmare Before Christmas, Soup Kitchen

It’s the second coming as Grey Lantern are once again teaming up with Wotgodforgot to bring Psychmare Before Christmas back to Soup Kitchen this Thursday with Kult Country, Base Ventura and The Oscillation providing the musical vibes. Last year they had a great night so expect more of the same this time around.

Creating sounds that have been chewed out by the teeth of insanity and spat out into a strange landscape, London trio The Oscillation are a thrillingly dark proposition; a tumult of spangled dissonant layers and groove-based hypnotism.

As the legend of Sways Records continues to grow, Kult Country are emerging as its chief prophets, their kaleidoscopic textures printed in hushed mantra and manifesto. Advocates of release through repetition, Kult Country lace their motorik with a warmly melodic slant in order to push themselves onto a plane of aural phantasmagoria.

Base Ventura bring the sound of impending doom a glorious new meaning, powered by visceral, primal guitars that trace a lineage back to Link Wray, and sinister reverbed vocals à la The Jesus And Mary Chain.

All this plus live visuals, Aficionado’s Jason Boardman on the decks between the bands and from 2am until 3am, while The Northern Quarter Boys Choir will be returning to sing and raise money for The Christie Charity.
