I’m not sure whether it was late last year or early this year but it’s certainly been a while since I heard that the guys at Kosmonaut were going to open a new bar on Stevenson Square, next door to Reuben Wood’s new place and opposite Hula. Then things went quiet and despite my best efforts to get some info out of Joe or Pasta Paul they remained tight lipped. Until today that is when I received a press release revealing some of the details. It went something like this…
PLY is a new bar and restaurant situated in the Northern Quarter’s Stevenson Square set to launch this summer.
The venue is a striking new concept from the team behind Tariff Street’s Kosmonaut, which opened its doors in August 2012 and this year won Bar of the Year awards from both Manchester Evening News’ Citylife and Design My Night.
Building work on PLY, a bright creative multipurpose venue for drinking, eating, meeting and socialising, is soon to be underway, as the team redevelops a 5500 square foot unit on the ground floor of 26 Stevenson Square.
Director Joe Fearnhead said: “PLY is a fresh new concept, completely distinct from the current Northern Quarter offering with some show-stopping elements. It’s a flexible space, with defined areas designed to cater for drinkers, diners, coffee meetings and lazy afternoons.”
So now you know! I’ll keep you up to date with news as I get it and I’m looking forward to seeing what these guys bring to the Northern Quarter and more specifically to Stevenson Square.
