From the stable of BAKERIE bread & wine bar and wine store comes yet another ‘freshly baked venture’ this time in the form of pies. With adjoining doors & shared kitchen to its wine store, Pie & Ale offers exactly what is says on the tin – freshly baked pies served with tankers of great real ales. Situated at The Hive building on Lever Street in what is set to become The Northern Quarter Arcade they are a real hidden gem so keep looking until you find them (if you’re coming from Stevenson Square walk past Bakerie and take the first left into Faraday Street and the arcade is on your right)!

Pie & Ale Panoramic

Inside Pie & Ale you will find  large central bar with a mix of snug booths and high poseur tables spread across the ground and mezzanine floors, which allow for a sociable as well as intimate setting in a classic beer Keller meets Philippe Starck environment. The booths, all nine of them, come with plug sockets so you can power up and work whilst sampling the delights of what Pie & Ale has to offer.

But while the quality of the surroundings is of some importance, the real reason to visit is for the pies and the ales! Three flavours of freshly baked pie are on the menu each day – one meat, one veg and one guest special (with a Breakfast Pie on a Saturday & a Sunday Roast Pie coming to Sundays soon), whilst the second piece of the Pie & Ale puzzle is completed from the fully stocked bar, with 6 real ales available, some from different local micro-breweries and changing regularly, and of course their own Yippee Pie Ale. Oh and they also have a fantastic selection of Whiskies to end your visit (or start it, or accompany it!) and a host of delights to wash down with ale like homemade pork & chilli scratchings, homemade pork pies & pickled onions.
