Northern Quarter Diamond Jubilee Street Party & Other Celebrations ~ Saturday 2nd – Tuesday 5th June 2012

The Northern Quarter is going to be buzzing with events either strongly, or very loosely, tied into the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations throughout the long Bank Holiday weekend. We are going to be treated to not one, but three FOUR street parties and a whole host of other good stuff. Here’s what’s on, but check back as more will be added as it’s announced, & make sure you follow us on Twitter for all the up to the minute news;

Stevenson Square Street Party

Stephenson Square Street Party
Monday 4th, Noon-5pm

The emphasis at the Stephenson Square Street Party is on fun for ALL the family. This family friendly event includes five bands, four soap box poets, DJ’s, games, face painting, live street artFred Aldous and H Blyth have collaborated to bring some of the cities top artists together for displays of impromptu masterpieces, and lest we forget the traditional stuff…all the businesses local to the square are migrating onto the streets to offer traditional food, drinks, and local arts and crafts. N4LOVESQE2 on Thomas Street
Monday 4th June, Noon-9pm, FREE

Brought to you by the same people who brought you last year’s post-riot street party, N4LOVESU, on Monday 4th June they take over Thomas Street to bring us another awesome NQ style street party. With 10 DJs playing from Noon until 9pm and food and drink from Thomas Street Restaurant, Teacup and 57 Thomas Street you are guaranteed a good party!

Edge Street QE2 Jubilee Street Party

On the street behind Thomas, Home Sweet Home and Common bring us the Edge Street Party, and we all know there “Ain’t no party like an Edge Street Party cause an Edge Street Party don’t stop”…well at least it doesn’t stop until 9pm anyway! Expect Pimms, Bunting, Veltins, benches, Hendricks Gin, music, cocktails, big tables, fine beers, DJs, classic vibes and much much more (including haircuts, heads, shoulders, knees and toes if the poster is to be believed!). Not one to be out done by the rest of the Northern Quarter, on Monday 4th June Bluu, Socio Rehab, Keko Moku and Almost Famous on the High Street are joining forces to bring us even more street party action. Slap bang in between the Lovely Jubilee and NWLovesQE2 street parties will be another street party, Jubilant Jubilee, this time brought to you by the good people at Odd. They’ve lined up Matt Ward / Ste Spandex, Patrick, Pasta Paul and Dom Zube to give you musical treats while you enjoy the delicious offerings from their ‘Royal’ BBQ and outside bar.

Sharing the High Street end of Thomas Street with Odd’s Jubilant Jubilee street party, The Bay Horse bring us ‘God Save The Queen‘ with a BBQ laid on by Small Plates (I’m hearing it’s a very special hog roast!), picnic benches, bunting, Pimms Rekordlig, Pimms, Jubilee games, Too Many DJ’s and from 6pm Tranny -Bingo with Sheela Blige!

Cord & Tib Street Tavern present a Jubilee Tribute Pop Extravaganza

Tib Street enter the street party spirit of things as Cord and the newly opened Tib Street Tavern take each other on in a “Like A Virgin Disco” versus “I Want To Break Free Freakfest” with DJs, fancy dress and of course the obligatory BBQ! Further along the road expect Sugar Junction and Matt & Phreds to be joining in the fun.

Simple Jubilee Afternoon Tea

Simple are offering an Afternoon Tea (in the morning, but this is a special celebration!) and have also teamed up with Creative Spark for a really inventive take on bunting. Head on over to Creative Spark Jubilee Bunting  to upload a picture and a message to the bunting that will be hanging on Tib Street. If your picture is chosen you get a free glass of bubbly in Simple. Be quick, you need to get your pictures uploaded by the 27th of May!

God Save The Queen

God Save The Queen at Soup Kitchen

On Saturday 2nd June Soup Kitchen have a very special all day Jubilee event on their hands with a day of celebrations with lots of art (some of the best artists in town contributing one off portraits of the Queen), music, DJs, booze and food!

First off is “A jubilee celebration to mark the 35th anniversary since the rise of Punk Rock ‘n’ Roll” which has some of the best new acts in town playing this one off event. Playing on the day are Monroe Hips, Wild Birds, The Louche, Champion Lover and Laser Dream Eyes. Tickets are £3 and you can get them from Skiddle using the button.

Diamond Disco

Diamond Disco at Soup Kitchen

Doodle love an excuse to throw a party and tonight they plan to give her Majesty a jolly good knees up with a propa diamond disco celebration seeing as we all have Monday and Tuesday to recover. They are roping in some friends to provide the soundtrack, whilst their residents will be on hand to pleasure your ears with House and Disco tunes. All you need to do is turn up and dance…

Thick As Thieves

THiCK AS THiEVES are getting patriotically involved and with a free party on Monday the 4th of June. We’ve all got Tuesday off  so join them between 6pm and 2am at Manchester’s newest venue, 2022NQ, on Dale Street in the Northern Quarter. With a broad selection of DJs including Dan Appleton, Mark Butterworth, Ryan Deering, Cy Humphries and many, many more the Jubilee weekend continues until the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Another Giant Hell and Comfortable on a Tightrope will be turning the Kraak alleyway and HABIB car park into a glorious street party for the Saturday of the Jubilee weekend. In the Kraak Alleyway there will be stalls, BBQ and DJ’s, in the HABIB car park there will be an outdoor cinema and performances then on the Sunday in Kraak Gallery there will be a WU LYF photography exhibition. Meanwhile in Kraak Space there are a whole host of bands playing; Sacred Paws, Dinner Party, North American War, Temple songs, Butchers, Queer’d Science ,Whole Voyald Infinite Light, Sex Hands, Waiters, Palms & more.
