Solita Xmas burger & New Menu

In case you missed it, SoLIta have opened up out in the sticks, having a new home in Didsbury. Fortunately they aren’t neglecting us over here in their original spot of the Northern Quarter and they have just released their new winter menu – and those used to the incredible/ridiculous concoctions coming out of their kitchen won’t be disappointed with what Franco, SoLIta’s owner, has come up with.

Leaning heavily as always on their much lauded Inka charcoal grills SoLIta are Manchester’s (and maybe even the UK’s) first restaurant to cook their steaks ‘cowboy style‘, which means they are cooking the meat directly on the charcoal. It’s some piece of meat too as they’ve introduced Manchester’s biggest steak, a 1.2 kilo bone-in rib eye steak, to satiate Manchester’s meat-hungry market (and a steal at just £39).

Other new menu items include the already legendary cheeseburger spring rolls (£5.50), an indulgent molten bitter chocolate lava cake (£6.90), a couple of new burger options such as the Walk of Shame (a BLT burger with added bacon Philadelphia cheese (£12.90)), Drop It Like It’s Hot (burger with pepperjack cheese, sweet roquito peppers, roasted tomato aioli and a Padron pepper skewer (£12.90)), and the classic SoLIta burger also gets a facelift with the addition of beef tomato, lollo verde lettuce and a new top-secret house sauce (£8.50).

For those who don’t eat beef but still want their meat off the Inka, there’s the new The Schnitz burger which is a chicken schnitzel topped with shredded smoked BBQ chicken and a tangy apple slaw (£11.90). For those that prefer things meat free entirely the menu now includes the hotly-contended (the chefs had a competition to see whose vege burger would make it on the menu) chef’s-choice vegan bean burger (£8.90).

Given this special time of year, SoLIta Bar and Grill in Manchester have been working harder than Santa’s elves to create something very special for this year’s Christmas burger……

A toasted brioche bun housing a massive slice of Aldi 5-bird roast and a 6oz Angus beef and a venison patty, surrounded by deep-fried sprouts, panko-fried stuffing, chestnut pieces, cranberry and port sauce, turkey gravy, topped with a candied pig in blanket. The SoLIta chefs tested out seven different multi-bird roasts from various supermarkets against their own creation, and the Aldi 5 bird roast came out on top. Go give this burger a try while you can.
