It seems almost impossible these days to go out for something to eat and not see people taking photos of their food before they tuck in. Invariably these pictures find their way to Instagram where the choice of filter is perhaps harder than choosing the meal itself. Perhaps you are guilty of doing this yourself or are one of the people that it annoys, either way TNQ Restaurant & Bar are doing something positive with this trend….
TNQ Restaurant & Bar are teaming up with Forever Manchester – the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester – to launch an Instagram-led campaign to encourage food-loving Mancunians to share photos of their favourite meals online to raise money for the charity.
Launched on the 12th September, #mymanchestermeal will tap into this huge trend for Instagram food photography as to enter you simply have to post images of your favourite or most impressive meals, whether cooked yourself or by a friend/family member, on their Twitter or Instagram account, tagging @tnqrestaurant and @4EVERManchester using the hashtags #mymanchestermeal and #forevermanchester
From the entries, a dish will then be selected at the beginning of each month for six months (starting 7th October) by Chief Executive of Forever Manchester Nick Massey and TNQ Restaurant & Bar’s Head Chef Anthony Fielden. Anthony will then recreate the chosen dishes, which will feature on TNQ Restaurant & Bar’s special menu for a month, with 50p donated to Forever Manchester every time the dish is ordered.
Nick Massey, said: “People’s fascination with what others eat, and with sharing their favourite meals, has never been so popular – with Instagram giving our obsession a new outlet. When searching through photography of homemade meals on Instagram, I’ve noticed the standard of some dishes is impressively high so we believe offering foodies an opportunity to have their dish added to the menu of TNQ Restaurant & Bar – one of Manchester’s favourite and longest established restaurants - will prove very popular and this initiative will go down a storm!”
Jobe Ferguson, owner of TNQ Restaurant & Bar, said: “Food photography on Instagram shows no signs of slowing down – everyone loves showing off their cooking skills and through our own Instagram account we noticed tonnes of people posting dishes they’d made which were restaurant-quality and this is where #mymanchestermeal idea came from. With TNQ Restaurant & Bar being one of Manchester’s longest established restaurants, we have watched and admired the work carried out by Forever Manchester in and around the city and we’re very excited to partner with them to raise further funds for such great causes. Anyone is welcome to enter the competition- whether their favourite or most impressive dish is an intricate Heston Blumenthal-style dish or simple beans on toast! We’re looking forward to see the entries and have them recreated in our kitchens.”
