Makers Market, Northern Quarter

Sunday the 8th of November 2015 saw the launch of a new market for Manchester’s Northern Quarter. The Makers Market are delighted to be working with the Northern Quarter retailers and Manchester council to curate a once a month event in the Northern Quarter on Stevenson Square.

They promised to bring the “very finest of local food, drink, art, design, vintage, and modern craft carefully selected from Northern Quarter artisans and businesses local to Manchester” to each and every market, offering the opportunity to meet the producers, browse the stalls, sample and enjoy the music and performance and since it’s arrival in the NQ it has gone from strength to strength.

So who are these market traders and what are they selling? So far the markets have seen the likes of… Modern craft and design from Loose Button, typography from Northern Letters and photo fusion artwork by Oliver Kersh. Posh tarts from Sillis Dirty Desserts and fruit and veg from Orange Organic. Award winning cheeses from Burts Blue and pates from Orchard House. Cheesecakes from MCR Cheesecakes, macarons from Baked With Love MCR. Hand made fashion items from Jabio and controversial art from Statement Art work. Stunning mosaics from Manchester Mosaics and retro robots from Gizmobots. Award winning chutneys from FatJax and handmade upholstered furniture from Faith In Fabric…and a whole load more.

This is the Northern Quarter Makers Market so of course some NQ businesses have got involved with familiar names like Koffee Pot, Soup Kitchen and the Butcher’s Quarter representing the Northern Quarter, but more are getting involved all the time with Bakerie the latest addition.

We are thrilled to be working with Manchester City Council and the Northern Quarter retailers on this event. It is a privilege to bring together a fabulous mix of creative and food talent which complements the Northern Quarter current offerings, and with the great music performers and street artists joining us our launch on the 8th November is set to be a great day for the area.” ~ Victoria Jackson, event manager for the Makers Market

There’s entertainment too. There’s been slots from Manchester graffiti artist kELzO, B-Twist Studios, a selection of local musicians, including Chris Tavener. There is a monthly stalwart though in the shape of Pasta Paul providing the market with a fantastic soundtrack.

So far it seems as well as all the stalls the market has brought the sun with it; long may that continue! So head down to check out what the Makers Market has to offer and then head into the rest of the Northern Quarter to explore all of the local businesses that already make this part of Manchester great.
