Monday 21st May 2012 is a significant date in the Manchester calendar as FAC 51 ~ The Haçienda celebrates it’s 30th anniversary. There are 3 parties planned to celebrate the birth of this Manchester legend to be held in the Haçienda Apartments car park and at Sankeys, but significantly for the Northern Quarter, Manchester Photographic Gallery will be hosting ‘Haçienda 30 XXX’ ~ The Haçienda‘s 30th Anniversary Exhibition throughout May.

Hacienda

The exhibition takes in rare artefacts, artwork, photography (including some historical photographs taken from inside the Haçienda by Ian Tilton), memorabilia from Peter Hook’s private collection (including the original Haçienda signs from the Gay Traitor & other original club signs, the Haçienda doors and the club’s rear stained glass windows which have never been displayed before), and an incredible, never before seen model of the original Haçienda by local artist Nick Hardy. The model is a painstaking recreation of the original building which takes in all the original features designed by Ben Kelly which Nick has carefully constructed over four years including considerable time taken to research the design. So impressive is the model that Hooky himself demanded that it be a focal point of the exhibition.
