Ginger's Comfort Emporium

After a sensational summer, the award winning Ginger’s Winter Comfort Emporium has parked up for the winter sets up camp right at the epicentre of Manchester’s Northern Quarter where you can enjoy both sit-in or takeaway ice cold and warm toasted desserts to your heart’s content within the quirky surroundings of the iconic Affleck’s Palace.

Ginger’s Winter Comfort Emoprium is a Manchester-based premium ice cream company with an extra twist!  Throughout the year, owners Claire Kelsey and Dan Manicolo have been on the road providing happiness and tasty treats in abundance from their vintage ice-mobile to kids and adult-kids alike.  With a cornucopia of  flavours and dishes on offer, the entrepreneurs have acquired affiliations with regional providers such as Brewdog Breweries and produce all their puds from the old Co-op Kitchens at New Century House on Cooperation Street to ensure that all their ingredients are locally sourced.

“We want ice cream lovers to have a beautiful, sophisticated and cosy place to come and enjoy our flavours over the winter.”

To give you just a taster of what you can expect, examples of flavours include White Chocolate and Pink Peppercorn, the British classics such as Marmalade on Toast and ‘English Country Garden’, the more avant-garde Plum, Gin and Juniper and for those who are brave enough…Absinthe flavour. Yes, Absinthe!! To suggest that there are a variety of creations to be sampled would be a severe understatement as the alchemists in ice cream could pretty much concoct any dish imaginable and, like all good trend setters, the change of season also comes with a new winter collection, so get your spoons at the ready!

Serving up from the hospitable and equally glamourous ice cream parlour (which includes a massage chair), you can indulge in some of the most decadent desserts in the country as the pair already hold the title for the “Best of the Best” which they picked up at the prestigious  British Street Food Awards in 2012 as well as scooping up the “Best Dessert” award for the third year running thanks to the ingenious Extra virgin olive oil with Hawaiian black salt sprinkles and strawberry sauce number, topped off with a novel black olive chocolate ‘flake’ for the full effect  – wowzers!! Certainly not the classic 99 you get from the bottom of your street after the school run eh!

This being winter there are plenty of hot options too including affogatos with coffee or hot chocolate, and hot toasted brioche ice cream sandwiches. There’s a new milkshake range to try too, offering specials like Margarita, with lime granita and chocolate dipped cherries.
