Dry sits in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter in a prominent position on Oldham Street, one of the busiest and most bustling streets in the area. Since first opening in 1989 this historic venue has overcome the changes of the years, stood the test of time and still remains one of Manchester’s prominent food and drink establishments.
First famed for being the original urban cafe bar and altering the public’s perception of bar culture, Dry continues to offer fresh forward thinking ideas; hosting the best new DJs, live performances and music events. With the purchase of a fantastic new pizza oven, the creation of a brand new food menu and a newly refurbished music venue, Dry is set to thrive for many more decades to come.
History of Dry Bar
Dry was first opened by Factory Records and New Order in 1989, and was owned by Tony Wilson – the founder and manager of The Haçienda nightclub, and one of the five co-founders of Factory Records. Dry was originally designed by famed Haçienda architect Ben Kelly and holds a Factory catolgue, FAC 201 – hence it’s recognition as Dry 201. Dry 201 set a precedence for bar culture in the Northern Quarter, functioning as a pre-drinks destination for the Haçienda crowd and bridging the pub/club divide; it has since welcomed such icons as Madonna, New Order, Liam Gallagher and Shaun Ryder through it’s doors – some of whom are rumoured to have been barred throughout the years!
Dry Live is the newly refurbished live music venue situated beneath the famous Dry Bar. With help from the new Martin Audio sound system, new band and DJ equipment, creative promotions team, in-house events and innovative talent coming through their doors day-to-day, Dry is reinstating its mark on the Manchester music scene.
Dry Live is available for hire weekends and weekdays to promoters for club nights, live music events, comedy nights, film screenings, art exhibitions and any other performance based events.
Dry Bar runs regular events and promotions all of which you can check out by clicking in the various flyer images in the gallery below, or check out our listings in the ‘What’s On‘ section of the site.
