Cane & Grain is set over 3 floors comprising of The Ground Floor Tap Room, The First Floor Bar and The Liars Lounge. It’s all about Rum, Ribs, Bourbon & Beer at Cane & Grain and each floor has them all in abundance. Every floor has something a little bit different to offer however but if there is one thing that is consistent throughout the building it’s that the team are extremely passionate about everything they do, be that preparing delicious food or creating drinks with fresh and house made ingredients.
The other thing that is most definitely consistent on all three floors is access to The Rib Shack menu, offering a selection of both pork and beef ribs including the massive Dino all served with one of chef Barry Gamble’s fantastic sauces – Dr Pepper, Porter Beer BBQ, Ting, Rum, Bourbon Yellow Cue, Vimto and Orange Chipotle. For the super hungry the Meat Feast is a whole slab of Baby Back, whole slab of Memphis, Short Rib and a Dino Rib with 3 sauces, Fries, Slaw, Pickles and Grilled Corn (I can’t wait to give this a go! I’ve seen it brought to a table and it really is a feast and a half). The menu also offers a selection of salads and sides including the gin-infused watermelon salad, truffle mac-n-cheese and tater tots.
The Ground Floor bar is the Rib Joint & Tap Room and is obviously named with sixty plus craft beers and a very healthy measure of rum and bourbon. It’s all about relaxed good times on the ground floor with the decor having a nod towards the booming 80’s skate scene with decks and pieces of decks adorning the walls. With Liquor Store Drop Outs (sharers) served in brown paper bags and old fashioned slushies, the drinks are designed to get the party started….and keep it going, 7 days a week from Midday until 2am.
The First Floor Bar, if you can find it, is a much more subtle affair. Customers gain access from the hidden door made from a wall of old wooden beer crates (guarded by a host). Up here the bar offers an ever changing and evolving drinks menu, with classic cocktails and its own modern interpretations available ensuring that there is always a drink on the list for you to enjoy. The first Floor Bar is open for food and drink from 6pm daily.
The third and final floor sees things change again and it’s here that you’ll find The Liars Lounge, the sister venue to The Liars Club. If you’ve ever been to Liars then you know what to expect from it’s younger sister and if you haven’t then you can expect good times, Zombies, lots of rum and lots and lots of fire! Open from Thursday to Saturday from 7pm until late. If you fancy your own Tiki party then you can have Liars Lounge to yourself from Sunday to Wednesday.
