I’m sure most of you have heard of the upcoming Independent Manchester Beer Convention (IMBC) by now with their guerrilla advertising at the Great British Beer Festival last weekend (naughty!) and huge Twitter (@IndyManBeerCon) presence but if not, here’s what you need to know!
Now, this event is not in the Northern Quarter (gasp!), yet we’re writing about it… how can this be, has somebody hi-jacked the site?! Not entirely, luckily for you folk, we’re bringing the news of the event at Victoria Baths to you because the good folk at our Northern Quarter friends Port Street Beer House and Common, as well as North Tea Power along with Has Bean are joining forces to give us a super-duper two-day festival of glorious beer and food!
Taking the best of bits of all the beer festivals that the IMBC have been too (and it’s a lot!) they will bring us mere mortals the UK’s most progressive, forward thinking breweries to the lovely venue of Victoria Baths on Hathersage Road. The event will consist of over 30 kegs lines, which will be hosted by the brewers themselves, as well as 30 cask lines curated by the trusty beer-brains of Port Street Beer House and others. I’ve also heard that there are currently brews underway now especially for unveiling at the event!
The Portable Street Beer House will presenting weird and wonderful craft beers from around the world and North Tea Power and Has Bean will be providing tea and coffee meaning that there will be non-alcoholic liquid luxury for your taste-buds too.
Tickets are priced £6 for the Lite session and £9 for Later session and can be bought here. This will get you into Victoria Baths, a few beer tokens and a commemorative glass. The event will also feature pop up tastings, mini food pairings, food stalls, talks and seminars and live music.
However, for the price of £45 you buy an IMBC MAX ticket which will get you a beer and food matching dinner provided by Aumbry which is a five-course gourmet meal matched with specific beers to bring out the best flavours. Learn about the effect beer can have on food and vice-versa!
Full ticket price options are: IMBC Lite (12pm-4.30pm), IMBC Later (5.30pm-11.30pm) and IMBC Max (5.30pm-11.30pm). For more details, and news on the breweries involved check here; Indy-Man-Beer-Con
