adidas SPEZIAL

Housing 650 pairs of rare, vintage, deadstock, re-issues and collaboration styles from the personal collections of numerous adidas collectors, the adidas Spezial exhibition, part of Design Manchester 14, is a chance to literally walk through the adidas archives and experience adidas history first-hand. Alongside the collection a very special one-off Spezial will be unveiled.

On Tuesday 28th October exhibition curator Gary Aspden will give a personal tour of the collection following a talk in a secret location. That part is a ticket only affair and unsurprisingly it’s long been sold out.

After a tip off about a store stacked high with vintage adidas products Aspden put together a team of fellow adidas fanatics to travel to Buenos Aires. Invitees were musician Ian Brown, notorious adidas collector Robert Brooks and adidas enthusiast Mike Chetcuti – whilst photographer Neil Bedford and film maker Greg Bond documented the trip. The objective was to find rare archive pieces for research purposes as well as vintage footwear to exhibit in this SPEZIAL exhibition which forms part of Design Manchester 14. You can check out the film below…

To coincide with all this special exhibition Oi Polloi are going to be selling the Spezial range of clothing and footwear. These will be available from their Thomas Street shop at 10am on Friday the 24th of October, and online from midnight that night. They say that there might also be some green trainer named after some place in Manchester…but they don’t know anything about that and they’ve got no idea when it’s coming out 😉
