A Carefully Planned Festival #6

This October, A Carefully Planned Festival returns to the Northern Quarter for its sixth two-day celebration of alternative music and DIY culture. From humble beginnings in 2011, ACPF has featured over 600 acts and has established a solid reputation among thousands of music fans who attend each year seeking the unexpected.

With a good ear for new music and a propensity for eclecticism, the festival promises to showcase the best of the UK’s independent music scene across 164 acts. This isn’t a festival restricted by genre; artists range from math-rock, hardcore-punk, post-rock, and doom metal, to folk, ambient, electronica, pop and back again, while keeping a common thread of artistic talent, creativity, and a commitment to independent and underground music.

Highlights from this year include dissonant noise-pop punks Joanna Gruesome, indie-emo DIY heroes Johnny Foreigner, acclaimed Scottish folk-rockers Admiral Fallow , and grunge-psych mob allusondrugs . The line-up also celebrates Manchester’s constantly developing music scene, with sets from Easter, Gorgeous Bully, Fruit Bomb, Duds, Former Bullies and Jo Rose, amongst many more.

Performances take place at nine of the city’s best live music spaces; Soup Kitchen, Mint Lounge, Night & Day, Aatma, Gullivers, The Castle Hotel, The Crown & Kettle, Texture, and 57 Thomas Street, all located within minutes walk of each other. Night & Day will also host a stage curated by online champions of alternative and leftfield music, Musical Mathematics.

Differing from most music festivals, ACPF is run entirely by local volunteers without sponsorship, industry-backing, or investment. This allows the festival to circumnavigate the mainstream to focus on performers and attendees who have a genuine passion for the UK’s underground music scene, and to cultivate an enthusiastic and friendly scene of it’s own.

As well as all the live goodness there will be after-parties until the early-hours, with DJ sets from Manchester indie-pop legends Underachievers Please Try Harder, local Krautrock experts Dots & Loops , and womenin-music champions Thirsty Girls Collective, discounts and offers from local businesses and food-outlets around the NQ an a specially brewed ‘A Carefully Planned Pale Ale‘ from Marble Brewery.

ACPF will be supporting Manchester Central Food Bank and will be collecting donations of nonperishable food items and toiletries throughout the weekend.
