Loads going on. Get on it.

Ruby Lounge

After last year’s hugely succesful event, The Doctor’s Orders and Juicy are teaming up once again to celebrate the incredible life and work of James “J Dilla” Yancey, a true and much missed genius of hip hop.

This year a dream team of DJs (all spinning for free) are joined on stage by a very special guest; Dilla’s mother, Maureen ‘Ma Dukes’ Yancey. For the first time we also have one of Dilla’s close friends & collaborators in the shape of Detroit’s own Phat Kat to come and host proceedings and maybe even perform a couple of his Dilla produced classics.

Still Corners
Many bands lay claim to the adjective “cinematic.” But how many can claim a truly cinema-worthy moment as part of their inception? It was a dark and foggy night when Still Corners songwriter Greg Hughes first laid eyes on vocalist Tessa Murray. “It sounds stupid but it’s completely true,” he recounts. “I was on a train that was going to London Bridge. But for some reason it went to this other stop. And I got out, and this other person got out. It was Tessa.”

Matt and Phreds

James Mainwearing Quartet

The quartet features creative Leeds based musician’s Nick Svarc (guitar), Mick Bardon (bass) and Joost Hendricks (drums), and James on Sax. They explore a sound world of dynamic extremes with original compositions and arrangements of jazz standards.

Led by award winning saxophonist and composer, James is known for a style that compliments a wide range of music; from the warmest heart-felt ballads to the energy of fast and complex pieces. At 22 James has a technique beyond his years and applies extended saxophone technique to a conventional foundation. He fuses contemporary composition techniques with the fundamentals of western music. His influences range from jazz names as diverse as Chris Potter and Paul Desmond as well as a range of contemporary classical and rock artists.
